Where do your students most need to see reminders of e-safety? On the walls of their classroom or at home? It was considering this question that led us to create these 'e-Sense Travelcards' for your students. We've wanted to make an e-safety resource for a while now and, rather than provide you with another poster for your classroom or a series of lessons, we've decided to go down the road of providing your students with something they can take away with them. Something that they can stick next to their home computer or laptop to remind them of safe behaviour on the internet.
The cards contain ten pieces of advice, covering the following themes:
- - the need to consider what you post online before posting
- - keeping personal information private
- - not sharing files with strangers
- - dealing with cyberbullying and trolling
- - never to meet up with anyone they've met online
- - good password practice
- - appropriateness of website content
- - using the internet positively
It's been a tricky design process and we hope that we've ended up with a set of tips that not only warn of the internet's dangers, but also encourage students to use it positively. When you receive your cards, we'll also send you a link so you can download a printable poster for your class and a video to accompany them.
The idea is that these cards could supplement your current e-safety provision - giving you a starting point for class discussions and something to provide students with for the place they need it most, at home. We can imagine schools using them with particular year groups or even (as we've seen with our Revision Ninja cards) for the whole school. This is hugely important - this is a resource that will ensure the e-safety messages you teach in class go home. If you are buying a large batch for your school, remember to take a copy of your PayPal receipt to claim the costs from your budget.
Printed on 400gsm silk coated card, the cards are 54x85mm. Each card has the same tips on - here's the design:
