New Year Revolution

You say you want a resolution...

The start of a new year, whether it be a calendar or school year (or in the case of our Australian colleagues, both at the same time), is an incredibly powerful time to reflect on hopes and aims for the future. Sadly though, it's so easy to fall into the trap of allowing our students to set themselves aims about 'improving my handwriting in 2014' or (even more dismally) 'be able to divide two digit numbers by 10, 100 or 1000 in the year ahead'. Worthy though they may be, targets like these are as dry as dust, covered all the year long and are hardly the stuff of inspiration.

And so we wanted to do something different - something that your whole school could be involved with, yet something personal to each child. In our New Year Revolution cards, we hope we've come up with a new year target-setting card that allows students to not only choose personal aims that matter, but provides a way of remembering them visually through the year. It's a chance for you to tap into the fresh-start-mentality that a new year brings.

We were inspired heavily with this idea by the work of designer Kyle Tezak. His Four Icon Challenge has been something we've been mulling over for a while. There's plenty of scope for using the idea of boiling down a topic to its core in the classroom (we could see the four icon challenge working really well in all sorts of lessons).

New Year Revolution cards give your students throughout the school an opportunity to set self-chosen targets based on their characters and summed up in a four icon challenge. The cards also provide space to choose a motto for the year ahead - something to remember and inspire resilience when times are hard. We could see this working well as a school-wide, class-wide or purely individual thing. Printed on 400gsm silk coated card with a gloss-finish on the front, the cards are 54x85mm. Here's the design:

The idea, then, is that students might choose targets such as: 'to teach my grandparents about technology', 'to do a random act of kindness once a week' or 'to try and control my temper better'. Are these not important aims, just as worthy as academic ones? For the school where character matters, we believe you'll relish the opportunity to get students thinking about how they can be all they can be in the year ahead. The beauty is that they represent these personal targets with four icons. As long as they can explain them and know what they stand for, no one else needs to necessarily be involved.

We've sourced printers who provide excellent quality. We want your students to get one of these and treasure it, hence the professional finish and 400gsm card. We're selling these in the following batches... The prices are as follows:

    - Batch of 30 cards = £10.50
    - Batch of 50 cards = £16.50
