If’ — for new teachers

Here’s the second of our three videos to motivate you, your colleagues and students in the coming school year (the others are Now That’s What I Call Outstanding and Little Video, Big Messages).

We made ‘If’ with newly qualified teachers in mind, but the things we think are important are just as relevant, whatever your classroom experience. Let’s value the characters in our classes and aim to develop things like resilience, honesty, humility, generosity, whatever the subject being taught. Our students are so much more than the sum of their test scores… We’re not against testing — that would be ridiculous. We just think that sometimes in all our hoop-jumping important stuff can sometimes get lost along the way.

An explanation for those of you in foreign climes: here in the UK — windy days and rowdy students are positively correlated, for “OFSTED” see “the government department who send inspectors into our schools” and a “Teachmeet” is an out-of-school-hours meet-up run by teachers for teachers to share good practice… Everything else should translate. We face similar challenges, wherever we are!
